?

What do you do when you have seventh graders who can barely read at a kindergarten level?
What do you do when your students are so low level, they can't even copy letters off a board?
What do you do when you have a student who writes about the memory of his mother beating him with a stick after he skipped school one day?

...I'm not really sure this is what I thought I was signing up for...

  1. Are these the EQs for the contact issues? If so, we were assigned to legal rights and I think a couple of these could work (especially the last one). To add to the list:

    1. What are the legal rights teachers have?
    2. How do legal rights affect teaching?

  3. Haha gotcha! Sorry - I thought they could work for our contact issue too! :)

Just to help you think this through a little, I believe it is standard to let the guidance counselor know if students write about how his or her mom beat them with a stick because they skipped school. Even though it may seem like a memory, maybe it still happens.

As for the reading level, I don't really have a good idea, but I always wonder how many have a learning disability that has not been diagnosed.
