When you get the chance, read the debate over Differentiated Instruction that is occurring on the New York Times. You'll see how educators view it in a range of ways.http://www.nytimes.com/roomfordebate/2011/10/02/are-top-students-getting-short-shrift
From what I am seeing, the article is right on target. The system feels like an arena that is under siege and grasping at survival tactics. Some days it has me thinking that numerous, neighborhood charters would be better. A friend tells me that, at the charter school she runs, I would have all the latest technology and freedom to be creative. It becomes difficult to defend a bureaucracy that appears to be so broken. I know that not all publics are similar to my experience. PSSA is god at my school, with no regard for the whole child. The sad part is the gleam I catch in the kids' eyes when I sneak outside the box. This is a social justice issue.
